How so?? When the major companies keep lacking on making product that we want? They keep putting out Luffy and Zoro and the garage kit industry has the same sculptors and same manufacturing behind it??? This has been going on since Garage Kits and many leading industry artist got their start this way. So the real issue is maybe stop gatekeeping these characters and allow people to get into these licenses so we can get limited runs of characters that will never see the light of day. Btw, I heard that BP studios has the same artist under Figurama who is licensed but yet they make garage statutes still? So if it’s not going to the source how did that happen? So nah bruh.. don’t think that was the Sanest comment. I think it’s just lack of understanding on how the art collectible world works. This is happening with EVERYTHING and if the company cared that much there would be cease and desists happening all the time.

thekingkupo12 dag(en) geleden#81158093This has to be one of the most sanest comment ever. No matter how great the sculpt is(rarely happens. about 5% only. they look like Chinese version characters already.) you can't justify buying unlicensed product as it is not supporting the main source of intellect.

If you know the estimated height of the original character, you can get a feel for the approximate size of their scales.

Say a character is exactly 61.811 in (157 cm) tall as is Asuka Langely. Scales of her will be:

61.811 * 1/8 = ~7.73 in
61.811 * 1/7 = ~8.83 in
61.811 * 1/6 = ~10.3 in

The entire One Piece scaling is inconsistent eve by ODA’s own artwork. But the Standard POP scale is around 1/8 to 1/7 and NUMEROUS companies are reporting the figures for MegaHouse under either of those scales. That does not come from the retailer making that up. It comes from the manufacturer. So yeah... Not sure what to say. But even a 12” or 14” KAIDO would still be incorrect scale to a 8” or 9” Luffy based on the size. But it IS advertised by numerous retailers under that sizing. Didn’t the President of MegaHouse also confirm this in an interview with Kid Robot as well? I’ll have to find that again but nah bruh. Disagree with you on that, I think you missed that entire point here.

brownsaiyan4 dag(en) geleden#81554675I see people talking a lot about scale ... but since when did Megahouse had a 1/8 scale in there figures ? I think people just assume that P.O.P and G.E.MS are 1/8, but if you look at their official product website (pbandai, megatrea) they don't ever mention a scale. Just the height in cm. I think megahouse just makes there figures at whatever height they want and often the figures are indeed comparible with 1/8 scale, but that is just because that works for megahouse to produce medium sizeable figures. So that is why Kaido is not 1/8 scale, because P.O.P never has been 1/8, they just work between 15 cm -25 for normal sized characters and the big guys around 30 - 40 cm, I guess like whitebeard. Another example is the new naruto G.E.M which comes out next year, he is 26 cm ! that is way too huge for 1/8. You guys should checkout the megatrea or pbandai websites if you don't believe me.

Looking forward to it thanks!
zephyr77313 dag(en) geleden#81156837Yeah, I definitely agree that they should have something more uniform in terms of scale, and Kaido could be way bigger for the price. I'm really excited to get him in, and I'll definitely let you know what I think when he arrives!

I saw it on BBTS but I just checked and it sold out. Showing the regular price now. :/ There was another online store in Japan but I can’t remember the name. Google it, you may find it.
Gabri13 dag(en) geleden#81157194which sites and how much lower?

TheFreeSoul26 dag(en) geleden#80516515Unlicensed products shouldn't be supported (it's not as bad as recasts/bootlegs, but still bad), even if they look as good as Black Pearl Studios Kaido - the money just doesn't go to the people who are responsible.
I wish there were more manufacturers like Tsume with the One Piece license.
And well considering the price of this Kaido... people already pay 650€+ (79,500 JPY) in Europe for him, which is a complete mystery for me.
I'm just putting it out here - he looks like a good figure, but he is not in scale and to me non-scale figures always look weird, especially when paired with the other MH 1/8 scale figures.
When you put Kaido (~35cm) and Shanks together (~25cm) it completely annihilates the point of having a Kaido figure, he should be at least 50+cm to make him the monster he is supposed to be.

TAKE-OUT13 dag(en) geleden#81156814I also noticed, that the price started to go down on certain sites for pre-ordering

TAKE-OUT13 dag(en) geleden#81156814It’s definitely all about personal preference with collecting. I can completely see why you went that route too. Especially, in terms of the Manga/Anime look. I personally like more textured and realistic aspects added within these sculpts...But that’s only given how I look at Collectible sculpture in general. For me, I also collect for the artist/artistry behind the work and for Bp. Studio, that has surely been the case for me. I just personally feel the price tag that’s on that KAIDO is ludicrous too. Especially for the size. P.O.P.s are getting in a non-scale instead of staying all uniform in 1/8... That is personally really getting to me. If this guy was more in the X-Plus Gigantic Series sizing or 1/4th scale, I think it would be a win at a little over $500! But at that price he exceeds many larger scale figures, heck even Sideshow Premium Format statues which are 1/4th polystone sculptures...It’s just crazy too me. I also noticed, that the price started to go down on certain sites for pre-ordering. I think MegaHouse is realizing this as well. Anyway, thank you for comments to me. I look forward to hearing your final thoughts when you receive the piece! Come find me and let me know, I’m curious how nice this actually turns out. -J

zephyr77313 dag(en) geleden#81112283I totally understand why people would prefer that resin Kaido over the P.O.P. one for all the reasons stated in this thread. Personally, though, I prefer the look of the P.O.P. one so I went with that. I like the smoothness and the almost more glossy look to it vs the more rigged and realistic veiny/rough look of the muscles on the resin one.
For me it's purely personal preference. I'm also not the type of collector who factors in things like resale value. Ultimately my goal is to build a collection I can enjoy for the rest of my life, so when I spend big money I'm going to pick the thing that appeals most to me. But, that's what so great about having options is that everyone can find what's best for them!
