NSFW Pictures on the Front Page?NSFW Pictures on the Front Page?Ask MFC

I'm sure it is clear to all that NSFW figure pics are not typical front page content, supposing that at least some users of this site are minors. It is rare for them to even make it to hot due to how niche the ecchi/hentai genre is.

However, in the event it ever becomes relevant, I wonder if we can't compromise to have popular-enough NSFW pics to feature on Pictures OTD. This is assuming the site's display functions continue as normal. So long as they are appropriately tagged as NSFW, they won't show to those with NSFW filter on, but they will show to those without. Hypothetically, a minor would have to deliberately click twice to even see the marked image, and at that point it would be no different for any other NSFW-tagged image on the site.

What are your thoughts on the idea?

I've talked about this for ages with people and have mentioned it a few times in articles too, the way I see it as a figure photographer it's unfair to see your pic not go on the home page as it's NSFW when it clearly has made it into the top six however as people have mentioned there're complications around this I didn't really think about. The first is the algorithm on how POTD is selected, you would have to modify that in order for the pics to pop up on the home page, the second is the filter, as we know it's easy to change to NSFW mode so if pics of a NSFW caliber were on the home page than there may have to be some form of age verification in order to see it, this might even have to move over to accessing your account too, as it's easy for a minor to make a MFC account, so maybe some form of proof of age would be needed in order to verify that the person is indeed over 18. The third is the fact that if this process was put in place then that might cause complications for MFC in general, as they might be classed as an adult site. One person pointed out that adult content is usually on shelves, accessed by passwords and hidden away in the shadows. Yes minors can find it, hell that's why YouTube had issues originally as children were looking at content they shouldn't, so annoyingly looking at all of the factors that are involved this could potentially be one massive headache, plus you have to think about preferences and this is where the NSFW comments went mad in a earlier article, as some people would perceive a bikini figure to be NSFW, she's in a bikini, can you look at it at work? the answer would be no, however other people would consider this to be tame and they would say yes, so this would cause all manner of issues when it came to the material on the homepage, even if things were put in place to allow us to vote for individual NSFW pics the chances are something that offends might end up being in the top six and cause an uproar, everyone has their own tastes so it would only be a matter of time before something gets reported. So annoyingly we're stuck with how things are.

Wasn't the whole NSFW system implemented because some dumbass was checking the site while at work, and therefore made it a problem for everyone else on the site? Allegedly.

Since Anime figures are pieces of art, it would be stupid to censor art just because some people feel uncomfortable. Of course people will always throw in the buzzword "minor", but firstly almost everyone who used the internet, minors included, know how to consume adult themed websites and do this regulary. And secondly, as said, figures are art pieces and sculpted by plastic and not human flesh.

Thanks for pointing that out. I checked and discovered the Nopan Nirvana club icon pic wasn't tagged correctly. If you try it now, it should be filtered with the SFW view.

BTW, that's the first time in over 2 years that anyone even mentioned it so apparently no one was overly offended by the image. However, I'd prefer to use the tagging system correctly, and now I know how and where to tag club thumbnails, so I learned something in the process.

Interestingly enough, MFC's home page can have NSFW pictures on it. They will even be displayed with the Safe for work mode on (green slider thing on).

Example: https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2020/04/09/2421010.jpeg
It's not a super large picture or anything like that. I just find it interesting that it's ok to have potentially NSFW pictures in some areas of the home page (that appear reguardless of setting) but not in others.

I have nothing against NSFW pics; I keep my SFW off, but I turned it on for this picture.

Edit ~ ahh It turns out the image was just miss tagged!

murialita4 maand(en) geleden#77299280Not an expert/lawyer, but have you stopped to consider this may be a legal requirement to keep this site from being considered a porn site? I remember years ago when NSFW requirements were tightened to draconian levels this was part of the reasoning given.
In regards to having the Nsfw placeholder show if you have SFW mode on, have you stopped to consider how horrible the front page would look for those people when several or even ALL of the pics are placeholders?

I don't think this is the case. The content is already there and SFW is already the default view.
You would have to opt in to even see NSFW content, and having an option to view NSFW content wouldn't really push your site into being a "porn site." Otherwise a lot of larger US sites would already be classified as such.

If the OP's NSFW suggestion were implemented smartly, you wouldn't see placeholders on the front page. It should just default to the next available SFW image instead. You wouldn't even KNOW that NSFW existed, or that a NSFW post was picture of the day.

It's mostly NSFW (unfairly) carrying a negative stigma. A lot of people are stuck up and don't consider nude or erotic works "art" and thus can't receive picture of the day designation, because that's for "quality" pictures only.

Correctly done, there should be zero impact on people that already have the SFW filter in place (the default is also SFW so new users won't see it at all).

I'm also fairly sure that the lack of any updates on this site is because... development is pretty much dead.

BuyMyFigs4 maand(en) geleden#77299064Lets be honest, kids these days are well aware of tits and ass, especially if they're anime fans. And most "kids" on this site are probably old enough to handle seeing them. I mean, how many 13 year olds or younger have the cash to burn on figures? They're just pieces of plastic anyway. There are historical famous naked statues right in public view around the world, I don't think anyone will be hurt if they see the "18/Over" warning on an image and choose to look regardless of the warning. That's their choice.

I call it the crazy duality of prude culture, where extreme violence (see MK and GTA) are celebrated, but showing a bit of skin causes an uproar.

Reminder that the Hot Coffee scene is what caused extreme controversy... but shooting down virtual civilians is somehow okay.

Being attracted to girls is much, much more normal than... whatever you do in GTA.

If a minor has a phone or computer to visit this site, they already have easy access to hentai and porn way worse than naked figures.
