Hey, fellow mfc-members and welcome
to another review!

Today I’ll review ITEM #676009 the titular Takagi-san from Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san brought to us by Phat Company. Takagi is a character that grew very dear to me in a period of time where I felt kinda down, so I was pretty happy to find out that there’s actually a figure of her. To think that I didn’t want to give the anime a chance at first is kinda laughable now though. (๑´ㅂ`๑)
Anyway, without further ado let’s get to the interesting part.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Starting with the box, Takagi comes in a rather simple and surprisingly compact one. The top, side and front feature small windows that still allow a good look at the figure, since she actually doesn’t occupy that much box space. Otherwise the box is adorned with a lot of pictures showcasing the figure while the pink elements and the blackboard add a bit of decoration to it. Still the design is rather simplistic, which actually fits the anime’s style.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256186.jpeg
The blister for this figure comes in 2 layers, the first containing Takagi and her desk, with a sub blister attached to it just for the base.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Once out of the box we get 4 parts: main figure, desk, chair and base with the option to detach Takagi’s head (which certainly helped with taking pictures).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256187.jpeg
No instruction sheet this time, but it’s not really necessary anyway.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
The base is a square piece of the wooden classroom floor and an incredible space hog with each side measuring 16cm. The different colored planks give it a nice touch although there’s not much else in the way of details to mention here. Also, since there’s no way or need to attach the other pieces to the base you can just display Takagi without it (definitely helpful in smaller/cramped displays).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256188.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
The desk is very simplistic with the wood and metal legs not showing any shading or structure to speak of, not that these things are usually very elaborate. As a nice feature the desk has hooks for hanging school bags and other stuff as well as some space under it where you could put stuff (if you wanted to). On the desk we find a notebook plus pen as well as Takagi’s English workbook and pencil case. While I appreciate the effort of placing all these on the desk the details aren’t properly painted (with the ballpoint pen and eraser being the worst offenders) sadly. There’s also a dent in Takagi’s notebook where you’re supposed to place her arm and I sure did, but…
Now, I can’t emphasize this enough, but don’t do that too often (or maybe avoid it at all since you can place her on the desk just fine w/o it) the fit is so tight that the desk will inevitably scratch her skirt and damage the paint.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256195.jpeg

The chair’s design is just as simple as the desk’s (really, some wooden features or a bit of shading wouldn’t have hurt…), but still realistic. The seat has dents that fit Takagi’s skirt and help you position her properly.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256197.jpeg

The legs of both the chair and desk look kinda so-so with the black parts being painted wonkily.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256213.jpeg
It’s immediately apparent that this figure offers only a limited number of display angles since Takagi’s face doesn’t look good from a lot of angles.

About using the dent for her arm or not… well, you can decide that for yourself, but unless you display her on a very low shelf, I wouldn’t do that, she looks fine otherwise.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256215.jpeg

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
With that being said about display angles Takagi’s smile looks just too adorable. I feel like it doesn’t capture her perfectly , but I still like it. Her face in general looks really innocent and young with the big brown eyes and her big forehead. Plus, her head is disproportionately big compared to the rest of her body, capturing the source’s style.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256216.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256219.jpeg
The definition around her mouth, especially her mouth corners and round cheeks threw me off at first, but I really appreciate them now.

Her hair isn’t the most detailed, but there’s still some shading and a few defined strands that give it structure.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256220.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256221.jpeg
Unfortunately, there are a few rough spots on the seam lines separating the different hair parts too.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Going further down we can see that Takagi is wearing her summer uniform. While her arms are somewhat in the way we can still see some nice sculpting when it comes to the folds and creases, but also that big unclean spot on her ribbon. The white line on her navy blue sailor-style collar is also not perfectly painted and the same goes for ones on her sleeves (plus, the seams look a bit odd). Also, on her right shoulder is that very weird looking unclean spot.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256222.jpeg

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256226.jpeg
Other than that, the shirt looks nice, with blue shading emphasizing the sculpt.
On a side note, I like the small accents they put on her elbows.

Takagi’s hands look nice and slender, but it’s a bit of a bummer that there was no attempt to add fingernails. The finger on her right hand are also oddly flattened where her head is supposed to rest, I wonder if that was really necessary.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256227.jpeg

Onto the skirt…
Now, I really don’t know if that scratch in the paint was done by the desk or if it’s been there right off the bat, but it’s a flaw in any case (be it the construction or the QC). Other than that, the sculpt and paint look fairly nice, with ample shading enhancing the folds in the fabric.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256228.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256229.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256230.jpeg
It does bother me that the fabric doesn’t really rest on the chair, but whatever.

Takagi’s legs are sufficiently detailed, especially the area around the knees and I like how her socks slightly dig into her calves.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256231.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256232.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256233.jpeg

As for her shoes, well these indoor shoes are quite simple design-wise so there’s not much to say about that.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256235.jpeg
But I do like the profile they added to the soles. Plus, the paint is clean here and the small heel loops are a nice feature.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Now onto size comparisons...
I didn’t measure Takagi, because of her sitting pose so nothing to say about that.
She’s supposed to be a 1/7 scale but given her unusual physique pinpointing the accuracy of that might be a bit difficult. She does seem bigger than 1/8 scales like ITEM #5148 and ITEM #549370 though that can mostly be attributed to her big head.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256236.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256237.jpeg

Even next to 1/7 scales like ITEM #501857 and ITEM #604432 she does look a bit off and I feel tempted to say that she’d be a bit bigger than them even standing upright (I might be off there though).
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256238.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256239.jpeg

Then again figures that are just a bit bigger than 1/7 like ITEM #287579 don’t seem like a perfect fit either.
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/07/14/2256240.jpeg
It feels like Takagi is hard and easy to display with other figures. Her proportions do make her stand out, but somehow, I feel like she fits with a lot of different sizes if placed right.

~◦*◦✾◦˚°˖*゚✲*❁*✲゚*˖°˚◦✾◦*◦~
Yes, I had a lot of complaints this time. Then again this is Phat we’re talking about so I kind of expected a lot of small flaws (most of them are at least), given my somewhat limited experience with them. And tbh I wanted to skip this figure initially just because of the manufacturer, but I’m still glad I got her because despite the errors I like her a lot. Not that I’m happy about the QC far from it (especially if you consider Phat’s pricing), but Takagi is a very dear character to me by now and I wouldn’t want to miss her in my collection. I’m not even a fan of school uniforms, sheesh…
Yet, I’m still hoping a better manufacturer will pick her up and do her justice (with season 2 airing a girl can hope right?). Wouldn't say not to a Nishikata for her to tease either. ೭੧(❛▿❛✿)੭೨

That's it for this review! Thanks for reading, I hope you liked it! ^^
If you don’t mind, I’d love some constructive criticism,
but if you don’t feel like posting any your thoughts on the figure are also very welcome. :3
Also, if there's anything in my collection you'd like to see a review of feel free to shoot me a message or something.^^

broken-Toybox7 maand(en) geleden#75728392That's exactly how Takagi is and they captured that so well. <3 If you're interested you can watch the series on Netflix since they added that a few weeks ago (which reminds me that I still need to finish S2).

I don't have Netflix right now as we recently switched to HBO to catch up with the exclusives on there. I will keep it in mind for when we go back to Netflix! Heard some good things about this series! :)

Cantisama1 jaar geleden#63765703Nice review. I like all the pics you included and that you pointed out this figure's flaws (not the qc I expected for the price). Ad constructive criticism, maybe include how you felt about the choice of pose, like whether it properly captured the character.
I also picked up this figure. I think her sideways glance, likely looking towards Nihikata, was the perfect choice of pose. Mine has some quality issues as well, and I agree the base could have been smaller. Still, as a fan of the series, I'm very happy to have her.
I hope her second figure gets a Nishikata companion. They would also work great as Nendoroids.
Thank you! :3
About the QC, well... For that price you should be able to expect better, but Phat's QC had never been that great as far as I know and tbh, this is exactly what I expected.
You're definitely right about that part, I should've included that, especially since the pose captures her perfectly (not that I would've bought her otherwise). Pity there's no Nishikata for her to look at so far. Maybe the chances of both of them getting Nendos is actually higher than a scale of her and Nishikata though. I'm still hoping for the best though I'm happy that the series gets some attention at all. :3
The base being too big doesn't bother me that much tbh since you don't have to use it if you don't want to.

BlueRain1 jaar geleden#63737361Man those comparison pics were creepy I thought Takagi would be small, but now I realise, she looks like a Titan ( shingeki ) compared to other 1/8s and 1/7s.Well, seeing how she's 1/7 it at least makes sense for her to look like that next to 1/8 scales, but still she's bigger than I expected her to be. But, I still love my little Titan Takagi. X3

Nice review as always!
Thank you!
She sure is and she's got another figure announced. :3

If you've got some time and you haven't seen the Anime yet I definitwly recommend it too, it's a really lighthearted and heartwarming sol show. And Takagi is definitely worth knowing. :3

whobdaplaya1 jaar geleden#63736912Not a super great deal, but as good as it can get :)
Am tempted to get both Takagi's, but I have a rule against duping characters :(
(have to draw the line somewhere, and the current collection size is bad enough already!)
Well, Phat's pricing sure isn't the best out there.
Well, that makes sense then, though the other Takagi looks quite promising. I'll definitely keep an eye on her (and probably get her).
