Unlicensed Figures?Unlicensed Figures?

PiichukaPiichuka1 maand(en) geledenReview
Hi MFC,

Recently this Genos figure went up for sale on several websites. He looks pretty good, but I've never heard of the production company, and when I try to search for it I just get led back to this figure sale.

I noticed on this website in particular (FNC) they put "LICENSED" in the titles of figures that are from companies I actually recognize. Does that mean this Genos figure is unlicensed? What does that mean about the figure?

The pictures are all kind of blurry and... oddly lit, but I think he could look nice? But I'm worried since this company is pretty much unknown, so I can't find any reviews for their figures (if they even had any prior to this.)

To be honest, I was so excited that I preordered him when I first saw him, but now I'm worried about my quick decision. I may ask the site if I can cancel the preorder.

Is this potentially a safe purchase to make? Can unlicensed/unknown companies be trustworthy?

Thanks in advance.

Well i saw the prototype some months ago but wasnt super impressed by it,anyway that is for you to decide if you like it.

As far as the shop in question the seller is 100% trustworthy one the biggest names in the Resin statues and super friendly and helpfull.I have POed 4 items from him(one cheaper one mid and one high end price wise and waiting another one) and i`m very very happy.
he takes extra care with shipping so possibility of breakage is very slim(though you need to pay extra attention unpacking them.Though i at least PO though FB.As far as seller is concerned i think its more than ok.

though be prepared since shipping as others told might be a bit of surprise depending where you live. Most of them are over 3kg so usually the minimum price is more than 60 dollars/euros etc...For that statue my approximation would be around 80 dollar on shipping give or take(personal estimation).

Also as other pointed they are UNLICENSED goods not bootleg since its original creations and not a copies of something else. There is difference since they are creating something original they just dont get the license from the publishing company.

Be careful in the studios though. Most of them noways have good quality because of the growing competition but there are still some not very good.As pointed do some research before hand and check their previous works and you`ll be fine in the future. :)

Pm me if you need any further info.

SkiaEsh (1 maand(en) geleden) #55163334Unlicensed, also called GK by those who make them, figure quality can vary greatly. The greatest variation is the company that makes it, in my opinion. I don't collect One Piece, but I would join a GK collectors group on social media and ask about the Aerolite Studio, as that is the best way to find out how good their figures/resins are. If the site has a Facebook/social media page, I would join that, too.
I also want to warn you that shipping from China/Singapore will be expensive. I don't know how big the figure you want is, but anything about the size of a 1/10 costs $60 or more to ship, and the prices go up quickly, especially if it is a resin. If shipping costs is not provided, make sure to calculate it or ask about it to avoid a nasty surprise when you get the invoice. Trust me, shipping can be almost as much as the piece itself for larger figures.
If you were wondering what I collect in terms of unlicensed figures, I am more of a Pokemon person. Poke Studios/DS Studios, King Finger, Star Toys, Fantasy Studios, Dragon Toy Studios, Zero Tribe, and MFC are all pretty reputable/known for quality among GK Pokemon lovers and some produce pieces from other series, too. (Although Poke Studios's quality is great for resins, their small resins/pvcs are kind of sucky for the price.)

Exactly, good answer... I collect some Zukan resins by DS studio too.

Yes, this is a custom 1/8 scale statue, the full pre-order cost of this figure was $180 USD dollars plus shipping... and yes you need to be careful with the studios that you pre-order, there are some custom statues studios that are awesome with good references and portfolio, but there are other with bad reputation. So, you need to do your homework before pre-ordering anything. Personally, I would never pre-order from a New custom studio. For example, I bought some statues from DS studio because they have years and experience making those.

Tbh, when it comes to the quality of a figure, it has become pretty obvious that it doesn't matter if the figure is licensed or unlicensed.

Some licensed figures have borderline bootleg quality, that's just how it be sometimes.
View spoilerHide spoilerPoor paint jobs. Giant leap in quality from Prototype to final product. Weird colours. Bad packaging. Ugly/Bad sculpts.Etc

The bigger worry might be the material, since many unlicensed figures are made from resin, you have to be careful when unpacking, and assembling because the material isn't as soft as the ABS/PVC that most common figures are made from, which can result in it breaking.
View spoilerHide spoilerApparently gluing it is a pretty standard practice though.

What do you mean by "safe purchase" ?
You either like the figure and quality or not , doesnt matter if licensed, unlicensed or bootleg.

When a figure is not made by the corporate overlords that does not automatically mean its bad quality. There are circles and individuals that do a far better job.

And when you dont like what you got (scam sale/not same as in pics) just do a chargeback or dispute.

I have that exact figure pre-ordered from that exact same website, so I guess I'll be seeing just how good that manufacturer is and how good that seller is. Considering the quality of the chinese unlicensed figures I've come across (including this action figure Genos that I love), I'm more worried about the legitimacy of the site than the quality of the figure.

I don't think you have to worrie about the site or the Company. The site is trust worthy and only cells quality figures/status. I once thought of buying a figure frome them since they offer shipping trough eu which would mean no customs for me. But i diden't because the shipping was to exspensive and regretted it later. And bought it from Another site.

So I Think you should go for it. Eventough it is an unliced figure it dose not mean that it is bad quality. In fact there are a loot of them out there and they are really good quality. There is a guy on Youtube who have collect them for years. Vietcollector go an watch him if you are uncertain. I will get my first unlicend to day. And I know others who also sais that they are really good quality figures. I don't know about the Company bur like a Said i don't Think you have to worry. And it is not a bootleg

It is hard to say what the quality of this figure will be. When i checked the info about the manufacturer there is almost nothing to find about them. It also looks that this is there first figure what they made.
It is for now impossible to say how the quality of the figure will turn out. It looks high quality on the pictures. Not licensed doesn't mean that a figure is automatically bad quality (see this blog BLOG #41822 ). About buying: That is a choice you have to make for yourself.
The webshop you mentioned makes me more worry. I did some research about that webshop and i honestly couldn't find any bad things written about them. Why would i worry? This webshop is relatively young with only 299 days in existence. There contact page is through a hotmail account and there are in the FAQ some spelling mistakes. Also based on the site you would expect that this webshop is located in China but in fact the site is registered in the US. If you want to click on 'Info FNC Store Shanghai China' you discover that this link is not activated/broken. It is possible that this person hides his data and location because he sells unlicensed figures or hiding something else.

Welcome to the exciting world of 3P companies! It’s a third-party figure, which we in the Transformer fandom call “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Legal!”. So... what it is is an unlicensed figure. It’s technically not a bootleg because it’s created using it’s own original mold. These have become very popular in the past decade or so as some companies realized that rather then just making cheap bootlegs to instead make much more higher quality figures... but, you know, without the creator or owners consent.

So it’s not “real” in the sense that a licenses was not used but it’s likely going to be a high-quality item.
