Figure that impressed you the most?

ilasjaRGBlv56 dag(en) geledenAsk MFC
Someone recently crated an article asking about the worst figure you've received, and that made me curious to see the figure you were the most impressed with when you received it, for any reason. For example, it was bigger than expected, or the sculpt or painting looked better than it did in promo images, or it's higher quality than usual for a notorious company. Maybe even convince some people to get a figure they're on the fence about, I know the "worst figure" blog made me remove a couple to avoid some major disappointment.

For me, even though I read the dimensions of the figures and boxes, I was still overwhelmed by how big ITEM #236103 ITEM #451821 were when they came. I'm excited to get to display them out-of-box someday, but for now they stay in their hilariously enormous boxes.

Also I was really impressed with ITEM #331519. Her paint job is absolutely gorgeous and I was impressed that her thin little hair strands arrived unscathed. She looks exactly like the promo pictures but seeing her up close and being able to get a real 3D view is so much better.

I don't have many scale figures (and all of the ones I own seriously impressed me when I bought them) but I can think of two in particular!

ITEM #259312 - it wasn't so much the sculpt or the size for Ren (though both are impressive), but the softness of his skin... Ren was my first gsc scale, and I was seriously impressed by the quality. His skin is almost silky to the touch!!

And then there was ITEM #287697, who I never planned to own, but saw for a bargain price and bought on impulse... I hadn't really liked the prototype pictures so I wasn't sure what to expect, but--he's seriously beautiful in person!! The intricate sculpting and phenomenal paintwork make him really stand out in my collection. In the end, I'm glad I took the plunge. I had initially only planned to buy ITEM #464625, but now that I own the standard version, I'm really looking forward to the new one!!

ITEM #143986 hands down. Pictures barely do this figure justice.

I think the figure that impressed me the most was the Skull Knight from ThreeZero. I didn't have to do any modifications or anything to make it look amazing. Then again, I'm probably bias towards Skull Knight but I can't deny the detail coupled with articulation and did I say detail?

Many figures went beyond expectation after receiving them but this one really blew me away ITEM #317 and he is still sitting in his box for now.
Also this figure for the paint alone was far better than I expected she would be ITEM #1618

I don't have much experience with scales but ITEM #466670 looks amazing and I'm pretty sure he's going to be my first scale :D
ITEM #463258 was my first banpresto figure and i really think he has amazing display value.

Every scale figure I've gotten has been impressive to me, maybe because I don't own many lol. I'll just say a few.

ITEM #206803 I love how sturdy this figure is, and the colors. Lighting can make her base look so cool. I love her cool nature, and the clear end of her hair is a nice touch.

ITEM #2189 this figure is 9 years old but I was surprised by how cool it looked in real life. I saw it for cheap on Mandarake, so I decided why not? I feel like pictures make him look not so good. Even his bird is sculpted well and is very cute.

ITEM #261527 also impressive, I got her for sale on hlj. I love the style, the big boots and shiny red eyes are so cool. I have her close to ITEM #2189, they seem to guard the area while I'm gone. I definitely want to own more like her. It would be cool to have a whole collection of creepy figures!

She's not as fancy as some of the other Miku releases, but ITEM #514087 impressed the heck out of me! For a Sega Prize fig, her paint job is gorgeous, and mine has absolutely NO paint flaws at all! I feel like I got a prototype or something... haha

ilasja (6 dag(en) geleden) #24669401Someone else mentioned in another comment about over-photoshopping figures in official promo pictures, I wonder why companies do that? Maybe they just think the real colors photographed that well, but who knows. She does still look gorgeous in the promo pictures though and I'm sooo tempted to get her. She'll have to wait until winter probably, when my wallet recovers from getting billed for ITEM #396841 (unless she gets delayed again)

It's obvious that they want to make the figure look better by adding atmosphere or intensifying the colors more. In the case of Momohime it's to convey the whole "recolor" thing as something huge instead of a "it's the same figure but with a red line in her eyes". For the Minato, it was probably to convey the innocence and "my pure little perfect wife" feeling.

ShaoMay (6 dag(en) geleden) #24631509For me it,s ITEM #429201. It's one of those weird time where I think official photoshopped pictures doesn't render justice to the figure. Like, at all. In those she looks awfully redish. If you see her in reality the colors are warm but not too much. The pearl finish is not so reflective. The red in her eyes is just subtle enough to really make a difference without being too much in your face. And that sculpt!
It was so worth waiting 2 years for her rerelease.

Lucidream (6 dag(en) geleden) #24628876The most impressive scale figure I've ever seen has to be ITEM #179391. I never expected Ques Q of all companies to produce something so utterly flawless, stunning and perfect. Her intricate details still amaze me.
Another really impressive figure is ITEM #316790. She looks really good for a prize figure, and her quality really impressed me considering her price. My most impressive prize figure.

That Remilia is soooo gorgeous and the dark/creepy theme would really stand out and look especially impressive among a Touhou collection, since other than ITEM #167170 the figures are all pretty cutesy.

victorviper (6 dag(en) geleden) #24626485When I got my first 1/4 scale figure, FREEing's Kuroko Shirai ITEM #135060 I remember being somewhat in awe of her size.
Plum's promo photos of Tomoka Minato ITEM #339063 were not all that good (the colors in all the official shots are very washed out), but I took a chance on the figure and I ended up being really pleased. The colors are much more vibrant than they look in the official shots, and she has some really cute features like her heart shaped bouquet.
Finally, while I had no concerns about Kotobukiya's Sakura Kinomoto ITEM #455586 , she is simply amazing in person. Photos don't do her justice, as her huge wings really make her stand out.

It's so odd when companies like... make their figures look worse when they photoshop them, isn't the point to make them look better so they sell? But luckily your Minato was a risk that paid off cause she looks almost monotone and completely washed out in that first picture other than her hair! And that Sakura is sooo precious, I saw her on amiami pre-owned a few days ago and almost got her but she was missing her wand! Hopefully she'll pop up again.
