Hello everyone,

I've been trying to buy from shops here in Canada to save on import taxes and shipping since it's been kind of hard on my wallet these days. What with shipping rates increasing, the dollar drowning and import taxes at an all time high.

I started ordering on Navito World.
They're pretty good.
There's also a guy in my town who is into comics who buys from Diamond in bulk and gets me my Marvel figures for a good price.

But I kinda don't like to give my money to an independant guy with no insurance. And since Navito World doesn't have any Marvel Bishoujo or Marvel ARTFX, I don't realy have a choice.

So my question is:
Are there any other canadian shops like Navito World?

Thanks a lot!

Hi my fellow canadian, I know the pain for figure collecting here, I am getting duty and tax from 9/10 of every 8000+ yen package I receive from Amiami now with with sal. I switch everything to nippon yasan because they automatically declare low value, so even if I do get charged with duty it will lessen the pain. Nippon Yasan offers a lot more shipping options and their prices are more or less the same as amiami and something the lowest of every store.

Hey fellow Canadian! I've been having the same problem as you, since it's pretty hard to find bishoujo figures without having to pay insane shipping costs or taxes. I use BigBadToyStore www.bigbadtoyst... even though they're an American site because their shipping costs are reasonable and they always open preorders super early (sometimes even earlier than AmiAmi). Another store I've just started using is anime-island www.anime-islan... and they offer free international shipping! The only downsides are that you have to put down at least a 20% non-refundable deposit for any preordered figures and there is a lag between the figure's release and you receiving it, due to them having to order it from Japan. To be honest, I haven't received my preorder yet since Harley isn't being released until later this year, but I've heard good things and free shipping is always a plus in my book.

Amazon is good for bishoujos. Ebay is also okay, but you have to be really careful about the sellers. I tend to trust people who actually take pictures of the product so that I know it exists and they're not just trying to scam me.

I seriously don't know anyone else other than Navito World. Some comic book stores carry a small selection of figures and anime related things, but Navito has probably the best selection and prices. Plus, I've met them in real life and they're super nice!

Figure collecting has been really harsh on Canadians. :( Yen is strong and buying in USD has not been a viable option for quite a while.

Polkadopolis5 jaar geleden#13768701For those of you paying a lot of customs fees
Have you tried requesting a reassessment?
I get taxed for importing "art/ceramics" with some of my figures which is bull because pvc =/= ceramics lol
If you fill out the form on the back of the customs invoice and provide "proof" that they taxed you wrongly you can usually get your money back but it'll take some time of course and you still have to pay upfront
I usually mail them a copy of the customs declaration (especially if it says "toy" or "pvc figure" on it), a printout of the email receipt, and even a printout of the database entry on this site if there is one.
It's a bit of a hassle but it's ridiculous that we get taxed for this stuff when it's not readily available to buy within the country

I'll have to try this next time.
I didn't know that was a thing, thanks!

That's a good idea. Does paying as Toy save a lot? I remember paying about $30-40 for 15k figure (I think it was $175 ish) not sure if this was the correct category.

On a side note, it just occurred to me that customs might be taxing more so they can make up for the bad economy. Dang.

amy6165 jaar geleden#13745950That's sad to hear. I haven't been ordering for the past few months and feel sad to hear this.

It changed a lot since a few months. Enough to think about changing my purchase habits though there aren't really other options. I buy mainly pre-owned figures from Manda and AmiAmi.

sailormatlac5 jaar geleden#13741152That's true to a certain extent. I used mainly SAL and even them, I'm starting to pay customs more often than it used to be. It's no longer the safest way it used to be, yet it's better than a 100% chance to pay customs on EMS.
Anyway, I never had problem with SAL. A little bit longer, but seriously, I never suffered any loss in 15 years of online shopping.

amy6165 jaar geleden#13738604You mentioned import fees, have you been paying a lot of import fees? If you have been getting caught frequently, try using another shipping method. From your blog it sounds like you're using EMS (shipping rate increasing) but EMS is almost guaranteed import fee. When I use EMS its a hit but SAL small packet is less likely.

Mashin5 jaar geleden#13739530Yes, I was using EMS on AmiAmi. However, I started using Airmail and I still get caught by customs...
Try using SAL small packet. I never used air packet so I can't say but SAL has lower chance of getting caught in many countries.
